Free Trauma Informed Learning Lunches

Safer Cornwall have developed a programme of Learning Lunches on topics relating to Trauma Informed Approaches.  These sessions are open to anyone across the Partnership who would like to attend.  The hourly sessions consist of a 45 minute presentation and 15 minutes of Q&A.


Vicarious Trauma

Wednesday 20th November 12pm

Dealing with personal trauma is challenging, but so is helping others work through their trauma — and it may result in vicarious trauma.  During this session, we will look at the following;

  • What is Vicarious Trauma
  • How to build resilience
  • Take part in mindful practice

The session will be delivered by 2 members of Cornwall Council’s Community Safety Team...

Kerry Whincup works as our Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Co-ordinator and MARAC Chair (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference). Kerry has extensive experience of working with these issues for the past 25 years. In her current role she hears high risks cases of Domestic Abuse and contributes to Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews.

As someone with lived experience I have learnt valuable lessons about the need to look after myself when working with other people’s trauma and have had to build some good coping strategies over the years.”

Rachel Williams works as the Drug Related Death Prevention Co-ordinator within the Drug and Alcohol Action team within Cornwall Council. Previously, she has managed domestic abuse outreach and Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVA) services and a service supporting women exploited by the sex industry.
