Coronavirus - Message from the Independent Chair
Friday 3rd April 2020
Thanks to everyone across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who has responded so imaginatively to help and support our children and young people. I have been humbled by the commitment, effort and level of care given by so many who have put the interests and safety of children above their own. In a very short space of time new ways of working have been established and plans have been put in place to support children in different and effective ways.
I realise how our approach to child safeguarding has improved over the past few years when, in a crisis, things we never used to do are done automatically. One key issue that has impressed me is how a substantial number of children and families have been provided with food boxes, vouchers or other support alternatives in such a short space of time.
I have been able to look at some of the new ways of working and have been impressed by the quality and speed of what has been created. Children are still at the centre of our efforts.
It is highly likely that the pressures will grow over the next few weeks but I am confident in the special people that work to safeguard children in our area. Please continue to work together and remember we are stronger when we do so. Take care of yourselves and your families.
John Clements, Independent Chair
