2018 - Supporting providers to keep people safe

Supporting providers to keep people safe:

The Safeguarding Adults Board hosted a conference at the Pavilion Centre, Royal Cornwall Showground on Friday 9 March 2018 where over 100 delegates attended. The theme for the day was ‘supporting providers to keep people safe’ and was opened by Fiona Field, Independent Chair of the Safeguarding Adults Board.

For those who were unable to attend a full programme of the day's event details the inspiring speakers and the interactive workshops where delegates were able to learn more about subjects such as the adult safeguarding process and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.

Working in partnership with people

The guest speakers in the morning included Ben Allen from Oomph, an organisation which facilitates adults to live fulfilling lives through activities and stimulating experiences. Teresa Kippax from the Care Quality Commission shared how her organisation monitors safeguarding and quality through the use of statutory notifications.

Naomi Campbell from Reliance on a Carer Hydration Project outlined how the project which promotes hydration and nutrition for adults receiving care and support benefits adults at risk and keeps them healthy.

Aisling Khan from the Council of the Isles of Scilly shared the story of Park House, the only residential home on the island which was threatened with closure and how she and her team achieved a happy outcome. Sue Miner from Falcare inspired the conference on how she and her team achieved a rating of ‘outstanding’ from the Care Quality Commission.

The Fire and Community Safety representative, Justin Sharp highlighted the dangers of flammable medication. There was also a presentation from Plymouth University on the EPIC project which uses technology to improve the health and wellbeing of adults with care and support needs.
