Person in a Position of Trust (PIPOT) Policy

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Safeguarding Adults Board's PIPOT Protocol provides a multi-agency framework for responding to allegations and concerns about individuals who work or volunteer in positions of trust with adults who have care and support needs. It supports organisations to identify, assess and manage risks in a consistent, proportionate and transparent way.

The policy sets out when the PIPOT process should be used, including concerns relating to abuse, neglect, exploitation, criminal behaviour, or conduct that may indicate an individual is unsuitable to work with vulnerable adults. It recognises that concerns may arise from a person's professional role, voluntary activities, or private life where there may be a transferable risk.

The guidance outlines the responsibilities of employers, safeguarding professionals and partner agencies, and includes information on risk assessment, information sharing, police involvement, DBS referrals, regulatory notifications and links with children's safeguarding processes where appropriate.

Overall, the policy aims to protect adults with care and support needs by ensuring concerns about people in positions of trust are managed effectively, fairly and collaboratively, with a focus on preventing harm and promoting safe practice.
