Understanding the Impact of Neurodiversity, Trauma and Exploitation
This is a bespoke and individually designed webinar for practitioners/partners who work within the Cornwall local authority area. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the impact of trauma and exploitation for Children and Young Adults, who are neurodivergent.
The session will open with an opportunity to consider the local landscape in respect of neurodiversity and exploitation.
Specialist leads within the NWG team will provide a National overview of this subject by sharing the learning gained from practice. They will focus on:
- Real life examples from NWG surgeries
- Relevant points to raise from The National Audit by Baroness Casey
- Highlighting identified Local and National challenges for practice
The main body of the webinar will be provided by Dr Clare Thompson - a specialist and Consultant Clinical Psychologist from Phoenix Psychology.
Clare will provide;
- A brief bio/psychosocial understanding of this specialist area and a recognition of the prevalence.
- She will ask how neurodiversity and trauma can increase the vulnerability to exploitation, including
- The Impact on parents/wider family
- Consideration for Intersectionality
- Finally, she will be inviting attendees to consider ‘What they can do to support and reduce the risks?’
Kev Murphy – NWG TEAM, will bring the depth of his specialist knowledge to the session by highlighting and sharing some key points from his recently published paper, ‘Capacity & chronological age’.
The session will be closed by ……..(Cornwall staff) who will provide a summary of the session and inviting attendees to reflect and call to action re ‘Next Steps’.
