Multi- Agency Neglect Deep Dive 13/01/27: Cumulative Harm and neglect in older children
Course information:
Neglect in older children can be normalised, mistaken for independence or overshadowed by concerns about behaviour, exploitation, substance use or offending.
This session examines how repeated experiences of inadequate care, emotional unavailability and unmet needs can accumulate over time. Delegates will consider adolescent development, trauma, contextual risks and the ways young people may communicate neglect through their behaviour.
The session focuses on building effective chronologies, recognising patterns, understanding the child’s lived experience and avoiding incident-led responses that overlook persistent harm and unmet need.
