Multi-Agency Neglect

1-Day Course Outline – Multi-Agency Neglect Training

This one-day course is designed for multi-agency professionals in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who work directly with children and families. The programme builds on existing safeguarding knowledge, providing an in-depth exploration of neglect and its impact across the child’s life course.

The course examines neglect across childhood stages, including adolescent neglect and neglect in specific contexts such as families with disabled children. Transgenerational neglect is considered and supported by case studies and research.

Facilitators will guide delegates through the emotional, cognitive and physical impacts of neglect, using local testimonies and national evidence.

Consideration is also given to the learning from serious case reviews, national research and local strategies and a focus on the practical considerations and approaches when working with parents and carers are included. This is further supported through the inclusion of key themes which can affect families including, but not limited to, disguised compliance and parental avoidance. Specific local tools such as the Graded Care Profile are included and promoted to assist practitioners when working with families.

Practical guidance on reporting, recording, referrals, defensible decision-making and preparing for case conferences are included with the aim that professionals leave the course felling more confident and able to appropriately tackle neglect in their practice.
