Multi-Agency Child Protection and Safeguarding Masterclass 12/01/2027: Gillick Competence and Consent

A practical session on children and young people’s capacity to make decisions, consent, confidentiality and when safeguarding concerns require information to be shared.

Aim: To support confident, lawful and child-centred decision-making around consent and confidentiality.

Outcomes:

• Understand the principles of Gillick competence and how they apply in practice.
• Assess a child or young person’s ability to understand and make a specific decision.
• Balance confidentiality, consent and safeguarding responsibilities.
• Record and explain decisions clearly when information needs to be shared.

Cancellation Charge

Please note that with effect from 1^st November we will be introducing a cancellation charge of £75. This will apply to cancellations that take place 48hours or less before the start of the course or if you book a place but do not attend. If you are unable to use your place you can move to an alternative date or arrange for someone else to attend in your place but please email us at OSCPtraining@cornwall.gov.uk
