Teenager Gambling Awareness Training: The Warning Signs, Online Gaming and Gambling and Referral to Support
Course Details:
This 1 hour online workshop is delivered by Adele, one of the Education and Prevention Leads at Ara Recovery 4 All. As part of the UK’s Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention Programme, we’ve recently re-branded our youth programme ‘Ahead of the Game’.
Target group:
Staff in any organisation who work with young people aged 11-19.
Since 2020, our programme has reached over 7,000 young people and 3,000 professionals. Our workshops run for 60–90 minutes and can be interactive. Key outcomes include:
- Equipping young people and adults with the awareness, knowledge, and skills to make safer choices around gambling and gaming.
- Helping young people and adults to understand the impact of harmful gambling and how to spot the signs—in themselves or others.
- Empowering young people and adults to know where and how to seek help.
Our content covers:
- Loot boxes and in-game purchases
- Cryptocurrency and skins betting
- Freemium gaming models
- The role of advertising and social media influencers
Here are a few powerful statistics:
- 1.6 million under-18s are affected by someone else’s gambling
- 27% of 11-17 year olds have gambled using their own money in the last year
- 85,000 of 11–17 year olds are currently experiencing gambling harm and 55,000 to be at risk
- 96% of 11–24-year-olds recall seeing gambling ads
- 22% of students (aged 18+) have invested in cryptocurrency in the last 12 months
- 17% of students (aged 18+) to be at high risk of gambling harm and 29% at moderate risk
