Cultural Competency & Safeguarding Masterclass (Half-Day)


Audience: Skilled practitioners with safeguarding leadership responsibilities


Time: 09:30 – 12:30 (3 hours)

Aim

To enhance leadership-level safeguarding practice across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by deepening skills in cultural competency, professional curiosity, inter-agency collaboration, and record-keeping, with a focus on supporting diverse, vulnerable, and minoritised groups in local contexts.

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Apply cultural competence when recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
  2. Lead safeguarding discussions and decision-making with confidence in multi-agency settings.
  3. Demonstrate professional curiosity, particularly with vulnerable, minoritised, and hard-to-reach children and families.
  4. Use best practice in recording, language, and information sharing to ensure decisions are accurate, lawful, and respectful.
  5. Reflect on leadership responsibilities in complex safeguarding scenarios involving cultural dynamics and local contexts.
